The Southeast Asia's oldest lighthouse in Binh Thuan

It is not only the oldest lighthouse in Southeast Asia, Ke Ga lighthouse is also the highest one in the area with nearly 200 spiral stairs. The total height of this lighthouse to the lamp's top is 35m.

Binh Thuan is a coastal province with many scenic spots in Vietnam. Here, visitors can choose for themselves many more attractive destinations, including Ke Ga lighthouse (or called Khe Ga) with a long history, unique architecture and poetic landscape.

Coming to Ke Ga, visitors have many available directions to choose from their starting points. The first direction is from Ho Chi Minh City, along Highway 1A to Thuan Nam town, turn right on about 20km; the 2nd direction is from Vung Tau, take the highway 55 via La Gi, and the 3rd direction is from Phan Thiet to go to- this way is also most impressive, and chosen by the most of tourists.

Driving along the coastal road, visitors can not stand admiring, surprising by the poetic beauty of the landscape here. The asphalted road is looked like a soft silk ribbon with one side of blue sea, white sand and one another side of the green casuarina forest. Sometimes, along the way appearing some beautiful resorts with lots of fragrant flowers, strange grasses, catching visitors's eyes.

Ke Ga Lighthouse is attractive primarily because of its historical significance. This is the oldest lighthouse in Southeast Asia built by the French in 1897 and completed in 1899. All materials to build the lighthouse were shipped from France by the French. According to the history, Ke Ga cape was considered as an extremely important position of the sea region from Phan Rang to Vung Tau.
Since the last century, there were many merchant ships coming and going here and sank because of not define the coordinates and location. In order to meet the transport needs of the French army and foreign merchant ships over here, the French researched and built the Ke Ga lighthouse.

For more than 100 years, after the Ke Ga Lighthouse was built, it has the significant contribution to the maritime security in the region. With the light scanning range is 22 nautical miles (approximately 40 kilometers), Ke Ga lighthouse became "guide-fire" for all boats in the area.

It is not only the oldest lighthouse in Southeast Asia, Ke Ga lighthouse is also the highest one in the area with nearly 200 spiral stairs. The total height of this lighthouse to the lamp's top is 35m. With the continuous spiral stairs and no-rest space in the middle, many tourists have shortness of breath when climbing. Many people had to give up, but they persevered in trying to climb, when the glass windows began to appear, as well as guests' effort were paid off, because through these small glass windows , visitors can see the deep blue sea, beautiful lanscapes at a distance, with some of peaceful ships, looming outside of the windows – looking like picturesque.

And when climbing to the top of the lighthouse, step out the observatory, visitors really burst before the spectacular lanscapes.

Looking down from the observation of the lighthouse, not only watching the whole Ke Ga cape, visitors can also see a panoramic view of Hon Ba with countless stones stacked each other which is extremely spectacular. The big, small stones with all kinds of sizes, shapes were arranged in a random manner by the nature, making a majesticalness like these stones are supporting for Ke Ga lighthouse to reach forever.

When coming to Ke Ga lighthouse, tourists also do not forget to take a picture with two plumeria rows with over a hundred years old, planted on 2 sides at the entrance to the lighthouse. These plumeria rows were planted when the French built this lighthouse, now they have become the ancient trees, are the places for the tourists have a rest after conquering Ke Ga as well.
